Difference: "рдХреБрд░реНрд╕реА" (chair) is singular, while "рдХреБрд░реНрд╕рд┐рдпрд╛рдВ" (chairs) is plural.
Concept: Singular and Plural Nouns (рдПрдХрд╡рдЪрди рдФрд░ рдмрд╣реБрд╡рдЪрди)
Singular nouns refer to one (рдПрдХрд╡рдЪрди рдПрдХ рдХреЛ рджрд░реНрд╢рд╛рддрд╛ рд╣реИ), while plural nouns refer to more than one (рдмрд╣реБрд╡рдЪрди рдПрдХ рд╕реЗ рдЕрдзрд┐рдХ рдХреЛ рджрд░реНрд╢рд╛рддрд╛ рд╣реИ). Learning how to change singular nouns into plural nouns is essential for basic grammar. Here are some common rules (рд╕рд╛рдорд╛рдиреНрдп рдирд┐рдпрдо):
- Rule 1: Add "s" to the singular noun to form the plural. (рдирд┐рдпрдо 1: рдЕрдВрдд рдореЗрдВ "s" рдЬреЛрдбрд╝реЗрдВ)
- Rule 2: If the noun ends with s, ss, sh, ch, x, or z, add "es" to form the plural. (рдирд┐рдпрдо 2: рдпрджрд┐ рдирд╛рдо s, ss, sh, ch, x, рдпрд╛ z рдкрд░ рд╕рдорд╛рдкреНрдд рд╣реЛ, рддреЛ "es" рдЬреЛрдбрд╝реЗрдВ)
- Rule 3: If the noun ends with "o" and there's a consonant before "o", add "es". (рдирд┐рдпрдо 3: рдЕрдЧрд░ "o" рд╕реЗ рдкрд╣рд▓реЗ рд╡реНрдпрдВрдЬрди рд╣реИ рддреЛ "es" рдЬреЛрдбрд╝реЗрдВ)
- Rule 4: If the noun ends with "o" and there's a vowel before "o", add "s". (рдирд┐рдпрдо 4: рдЕрдЧрд░ "o" рд╕реЗ рдкрд╣рд▓реЗ рд╕реНрд╡рд░ рд╣реИ рддреЛ "s" рдЬреЛрдбрд╝реЗрдВ)
- Rule 5: If the noun ends with "y" and there's a consonant before "y", replace "y" with "ies". (рдирд┐рдпрдо 5: рдЕрдЧрд░ "y" рд╕реЗ рдкрд╣рд▓реЗ рд╡реНрдпрдВрдЬрди рд╣реИ, рддреЛ "y" рдХреЛ "ies" рд╕реЗ рдмрджрд▓реЗрдВ)
- Rule 6: If the noun ends with "y" and there's a vowel before "y", add "s". (рдирд┐рдпрдо 6: рдЕрдЧрд░ "y" рд╕реЗ рдкрд╣рд▓реЗ рд╕реНрд╡рд░ рд╣реИ, рддреЛ "s" рдЬреЛрдбрд╝реЗрдВ)
- Rule 7: If the noun ends with "f" or "fe", replace "f" or "fe" with "ves". (рдирд┐рдпрдо 7: "f" рдпрд╛ "fe" рдХреЛ "ves" рдореЗрдВ рдмрджрд▓реЗрдВ)
- Rule 8: Some nouns change spelling completely in their plural form (must memorize these). (рдирд┐рдпрдо 8: рдХреБрдЫ рд╕рдВрдЬреНрдЮрд╛рдПрдБ рдЕрдкрдиреЗ рдмрд╣реБрд╡рдЪрди рд░реВрдк рдореЗрдВ рдкреВрд░реА рддрд░рд╣ рд╕реЗ рдмрджрд▓ рдЬрд╛рддреА рд╣реИрдВ)
- Rule 9: Some nouns remain the same in both singular and plural forms; these are uncountable nouns. (рдирд┐рдпрдо 9: рдХреБрдЫ рд╕рдВрдЬреНрдЮрд╛рдПрдБ рдПрдХрд╡рдЪрди рдФрд░ рдмрд╣реБрд╡рдЪрди рджреЛрдиреЛрдВ рдореЗрдВ рд╕рдорд╛рди рд░рд╣рддреА рд╣реИрдВ)
