Subject: Urgent Action Required for Pollution in the Ganga River at Varanasi Stretch
Dear Sir/Madam,
I hope this letter finds you well. As a concerned resident of Riverside Colony, Varanasi, I am compelled to draw your immediate attention to the alarming level of pollution in the Ganga River, particularly in the stretch that flows adjacent to our locality.
Over the past year, the river has become increasingly polluted with industrial waste, domestic sewage, and religious offerings, severely impacting the water quality and the surrounding environment. The once-clear waters have turned murky, emitting a foul smell that pervades the riverside areas. Furthermore, this pollution poses a significant health risk to the community members who depend on the river for daily rituals, bathing, and, in some cases, drinking water.
The Ganga River is not only a vital natural resource but also holds immense cultural and spiritual significance for the people of Varanasi and the nation. It is disheartening to witness its degradation due to unchecked pollution, which also threatens the diverse aquatic life it supports.
In light of the above, I urge the Uttar Pradesh State Environmental Protection Agency to:
1. Conduct a thorough investigation into the sources of pollution affecting the Ganga River in Varanasi.
2. Implement stricter regulations and monitoring of industrial and domestic waste disposal into the river.
3. Launch a comprehensive river clean-up and conservation project to restore the water quality and protect the river’s biodiversity.
4. Promote community awareness and engagement initiatives to encourage environmentally responsible practices among residents and industries.
The preservation of the Ganga River is of paramount importance for the environmental, cultural, and economic well-being of our community and the country. Immediate and decisive action is necessary to halt further pollution and initiate recovery efforts.
Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. I am hopeful for a positive response and am willing to provide any further information or assistance required from my end.
Warm regards,
Meera Gupta
