Subject: Serious Concerns Over Food Safety and Hygiene in Public Eateries in Kochi

Dear Sir/Madam,
I hope this letter finds you in good health. I am writing to express my grave concerns regarding the declining standards of food safety and hygiene observed in several public eateries, including restaurants and street food vendors, in Kochi.
Over the past few months, there have been multiple instances where the lack of hygiene practices in these establishments has come to light, ranging from the use of contaminated water and expired ingredients to improper food handling and storage. Such negligence not only compromises the quality of food served to the public but also poses significant health risks, potentially leading to foodborne illnesses.
Despite the reputation of Kochi as a culinary destination, these alarming practices have started to tarnish the city’s image and deter both locals and tourists from enjoying the diverse food offerings. Moreover, the situation raises serious questions about the effectiveness of the existing food safety inspections and regulations enforced by the relevant authorities.
Given the potential threat to public health, I urge the Kerala State Public Health Department to take immediate and stringent actions:
1. Conduct surprise inspections of eateries across Kochi to assess and ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene standards.
2. Implement stricter penalties for establishments found violating food safety norms to deter future non-compliance.
3. Increase public awareness campaigns on food safety and the importance of consuming food from reputable and compliant eateries.
4. Encourage and facilitate regular training for food handlers and vendors on basic food hygiene practices.
It is imperative that we uphold the highest standards of food safety to protect the health of the community and maintain the culinary integrity of Kochi. I trust that the Public Health Department will address this issue with the urgency and seriousness it warrants.
Thank you for your attention to this critical matter. I am available for any further information or to discuss this issue in more detail.
Warm regards,

Vishal Gupta
